"YES ... It is finally here .... my first attempt at contributing to the enrichment of the ever-growing world-wide network called the Internet."Well that's what this page has been saying for the last five years. I started this thing back while I was still in school, and I had plenty of time to work on it. But times change, and things like this slip fom one's mind, and I never gave it much thought. I did one update about two years ago, to show some fotographs of our Winter hollidays to a couple of friends (You can find those in my Red Pages). But now finally, I intend to do something about my homepage again. I have no idea on how much I am going to update, or how often, but I'll see about that later. For now, it is going to be about finishing what I started five years ago.
[Well, since the idea of this page hasnt changed much, I decided to leave this paragraph in, and just modify it a bit]
After having told lots of people how easy the HTML language is, I finally got around to creating something of a homepage. It might not be much to look at, but, as with all other means of publication, inspiration is the most important element in the design of a web page, and generally I lack all signs of it. It might of course be that my life is just so boring that I have nothing to really talk about. I am - after all - just another net-junkie addicted to chatting, playing games, messing around with my PC (Yes, I work on an Intel based system - sorry but I can't afford any better!), listening to music, going to college and other kinds of generally boring stuff.Okay ... so that was about five years ago. I was still in school back then, and most of my time behind the computer was at home. Now, after having been a 'Young Urban Professional' for four years, my life is different. I am no YUP like those guys with their porsche's and fancy suits and everything like back in the 80's, but I have had a steady job at Philips Semiconductors for four years. It's a fun job (somebody has to do it), but I spend most of my day behind a screen now. Therefore my interests have changed a bit. I am no longer the game-playing, over-chatting, web-surfing geek I was before; instead, I am now a standaard engineer. Well ... still a geek that is, but at least at home I don't do that much behind a PC anymore. Of course, computers are still a part of my personal life, as I am also the network operator of the home network I have built between the computers of a number house-mates of mine (see: still a nerd in here). I do play the occasional game (Halflife mods, some C&C, a bit of Q3A), but not that much any more.
Most of my spare time I play sports now. I used to play badminton until I started my Southafrican internship, but with that trip, the following year back at school, and the last year for my thesis, I hardly got round to it. But as I started with Philips, I started playing a bit again. At first I only played for the Philips Badminton Club (which is a small local club here in Nijmegen), but soon also started playing squash. Now, four years later, I play badminton competition at BIC Beuningen (open play at mondays, training on thursdays and a match in the weekend), and play squash up to three times a week, in two groups which I am organising myself (one including an internal competition). All in all it keeps me busy for 2 to 6 days a week. Of course I intend to write some about this stuff in the Red Pages, but don't expect it too soon
Well, the least I can do is start with an update of my life on The Blue Pages. It was about all I had, but it is WAY out of date. The The Red Pages will be up next.
The Blue Pages of my homepage are dedicated to the general boring information of my life. Being a semi-depressed type of guy, I found blue a suiting colour for items like my personal information, my Curriculum Vitae, my current job and more of that formal stuff.
The Red Pages I have reserved for the things in life I find the worth the effort to get up for every morning. In other words, I have chosen The Red Pages for the things that make my life worth living. I actually kindof care for these items, which include my family, my friends on the net, the Internet, my favourite games, my taste in music and my Personal Computer.
The Yellow Pages are my collections of links I have collected during the hours that I have spend on the Internet. I have categorized them into the following sections: Software, Hardware, Homepages of friends, interesting Dutch sites, and other interesting stuff. The Yellow Pages also includes my Guest-book, so please stop by there.
